THE STREETS SAY: 2 out of 5
DJBooth.Net (2.5 out of 5)
Summary: “…if iSouljaBoyTellEm is any indication, Soulja Boy’s days are numbered. iSouljaBoy alternates between transparent attempts to copy the ringtone magic of Crank That and awkward stabs at adopting a more thuggish image.Ultimately, if Soulja Boy doesn’t stop making music so reliant on hooks and gimmicks, iSouljaBoyTellEm will mark the beginning of the end for the teen sensation. You live by the ringtone, you die by the ringtone. Just ask Mims.”
HipHopDX (2 out of 5)
Summary: “Even with rampant beats and creative hooks, the effortless blueprint is all too reminiscent of what got Soulja Boy into the game. Failure to expand and showcase diversity within his lyricism has brought down hopes for longevity in the rap world for the young star.”
TooKnown’s WellKnowns (No Rating)
Summary: “His first album, whether you like Soulja Boy or not, was honestly a joke. 90% of the tracks were absolute garbage. It went platinum due to “Crank That” and the album’s overall absurdity, which actually bordered on humor. His sophomore album is noticeably better, he actually puts effort into producing his songs and tries his best to deliver somewhat decent lyrics. It’s not terrible at all, there really is something interesting about several of these tracks, but not enough to make it a good album.”
Nappy Afro (1.5 out of 5)
Summary: “At first, I thought Soulja Boy was going to grow up on this one and make a decent album that I figured critics wouldn’t completely destroy. Well, it looks like we’re back on that same road again. Soulja Boy needs to grow up in the game: you 18 man, make some music that isn’t just for the teenyboppers!”
