I Wish Nah Right Was A Real Blog
As in, you know, a site with writing. I appreciate to the fullest the role that the website Nah Right plays in the online hip-hop community specifically and the rap music industry in general.
Now, I don’t really visit Nah Right to grab the same videos and music that will then be posted on hundreds of clone sites. We think for ourselves here at YFWB. But, that doesn’t mean that I don’t check for these dudes on the regular. Why? For the editorials.
Authors Eskay and Nation don’t offer their thoughts often, but when they do, its usually good times. Not to come off as a Nah Right Stan, even though its looking pretty bad already, but often the comments are better than the content in the posts.
I dig sarcasm backed with actual intelligence, so the swipes these dudes takes are my ish. These guys need to start a real blog (unless they have one and I lose), like now. They’re kinda like Bol without the grapefruit-like bitterness. Sure, it would be more effort for them, but I’d be happy. Isn’t that the point?
To illustrate, I took a swing through the archives and dug up a few choice quotes that I remembered reading at some point. Behold:
“There haven’t been enough Biggie posts on the internets for this kind of an event. Just saying… if there were a Tupac movie people would be getting their face tatted up and writing love letters to dude.” - Jan 6, 2009
“Jay Smooth responds to some ignorant fuckhead commenter who tried to attack him on Just’s site for vlogging about the Budden/Ransom beef instead of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Because, you know, when there’s an international incident unfolding, all bloggers, no matter what subject we happen specialize in, must drop everything and make sure our readers are properly informed. GTFOH.” – Jan 5, 2009
“Here’s a video for Capo’s rendition of KiD Cudi’s “Day N Nite”. He leaves his phone # at the end in case you wanna hit him up and let him know you appreciate his swag.” – Oct 20, 2008
“I feel you Cliff, and I agree that you should be compensated for your work, but you need to tell the neanderthals at your record label to fall back and raise up off the bloggers. The game is digital now, but most of you artists and labels are still working an analog hustle. Just because you launched a social networking site and threw a couple of “blogs” up on Youtube, doesn’t mean you know what the fuck you’re doing.” – September 28, 2008
“Wow, would you look at who is making music together. I guess [Ludacris] is over that two piece Cliff served him at that Kevin Liles luncheon way back when. I did not see this coming.” - Aug 7, 2008
“Breaking: Curtis shot in foot…..by his own record label” – July 8, 2007
As an added bonus, here’s some choice Twitter posts from Eskay. It seriously took me 10 minutes to scan them. I’m not on my stalker grind. Its a labor of lov…I mean, I’m just bored.
“I aint even get to say what up to Joey, ninjas was swarming after the music went off. Prediction: 37 budden interviews on Youtube 2morrow”
“people who still never heard of Twitter > people I never heard of with protected updates”
“if you need to wait for some arbitrary day that marks a new 365 day period on the Gregorian Calendar to make a resolution you lost @ life”
“i’m happy Forte is out, but why’s everybody acting like W. pardoned Assata or some shit”
“I haven’t logged into my nah.right.music@gmail account in like 3 weeks. if you’ve been sending me shit there you lost”
“that’s what i’m talking about: my 2 year old just went in the fridge and brought me a Heineken of her own volition”
