Six Guests That Need To Be On Detox

NOTE: Swiped by my friends over at Nappy Afro, who then had it jacked and completely bastardized by the usually on-point Smoking Section. SMH. YFWB gets people talking, ya heard?
Nasir Jones recently conducted an interview where he told the world that he will indeed by on the much-anticipated Detox- whenever it gets released. Happy to hear that, but it got me thinking to what other spitters I’d like to make an appearance on Dre’s album.
I’m cool with 50, Snoop, Em and the usual crew heading up the majority of the verses on Detox, but it would be nice to see a different lineup in 2009. Here’s my wish list, as it were:
Redman
I have always thought that Redman never got the shine he deserved in rap. He is pound for pound one of the best lyricists in the game. I think part of that might be that his beats were never the strongest – word to Erick Sermon. If we could get him on a few Dre bangers, that would be something to see, er, hear.
Kanye West
Both these dudes are mad creative in their own right. If the studio could survive the clash of the two egos, I think the result would be dope. Let’s be real – Kanye can spit. And he’s musically inclined, so he could ride over a Dre beat better than most. And you know Andre would appreciate ‘Ye’s work ethic.
Jay-Z
We know what happens when Jay goes in over a beat from a top beatsmith (Timbo, Premier, Pharrell, Kanye). We all absorbed “The Watcher 2″, “Get Your Money Right” and “Watch Me.” I would love to see a rejuvenated Hov kick 16 bars over a supernova hot Dre beat. C’mon - you would too.
Lil Wayne
Imagine the result if Weezy and Dre worked together. Of course, the famously meticulous Dre would probably shoot dude after the third time he missed a recording session from being too effed up to record. I thought Wayne showed he could handle substantive beats on Tha Carter III and I’m pretty sure Weezy would vibe with some of the more creative and abstract aspects of Dre’s production. Could surprise you how good it turns out.
Raekwon
Forget OB4CL2. Forget RZA. Let’s see The Chef chop it up with The Doctor. I was hyped when I found out that Rae had signed with Aftermath and equally saddened when I found out that he was no longer messing with Dre and hadn’t collaborated with him in any real way. Rae is so different than the existing crowd of MC’s slated for Detox, he would flip the album on its head.
The Game
If Game wasn’t such a baby, he probably would be on Dre’s final album. But all that stupid ish aside, Game kills Dre tracks. The Documentary was a glimpse into what could have been. Chuck Taylor would most definitely bring Dr. Dre back to his roots with his that CPT style. If I had to pick between 50 Cent and Game appearing on my album, I’d take Game. Eff 50.
I’m not saying Detox won’t be a dope album – Dre wouldn’t release anything less. But with a new flavor, the joint could be that much better.

Now i’m all amped up for Detox. I think Game should be on it too. He’s def a no?
Do you know who else will be on there for sure?
What about adding Bun-B to the list?
We know he can shine on star powered tracks (Big Pimpin, Intn’l Player’s Anthem). It’d be a nice tribute to Pimp C too… Plus he can adjust to to any production style; it’d be awesome to hear a track with Dre.
Good looks on that one, Chris. Bun B would be a great guest. I’d love to see him rip a Dre beat apart.
I’m not totally sure about that, actually. If he jumped on at the last minute it would be worthy of attention, But with 50 crowding things out, I don’t think there’s a lot of room for Jaycon.
And everything I know about Dre tells me once he doesn’t eff with you anymore, you’re cut off. Period.
Don’t you ever fuckin’ suggest Kanye West to be on a work of such a music great as Dr. Dre again.
Kanye has not, and will not, ever come close to what Dr. Dre has achieved.
The last album Kanye made should be enough to make him not worthy.
I stand by it. I’m not saying 808 was worthy at all. But his body of work is dope overall. Let’s not forget – Dre was just another producer until Chronic. An incredibly dope one, but still just another producer in a crew.
Kanye changed the game too. Everyone was biting sped up soul beats the same way that beatmakers were jacking the G-Funk sound. Too early to tell where Kanye’s legacy will end up.
I think that Kanye will be mostly forgotten when some other similar artist takes his place and he retires early because he’s lost his touch.
Then the cycle will start over.
I;ve said it often and I’ll say it again. I did not feel 808s. So, I’m with you that I’m not feeling him right now. But at his best – his best – he is a rapper than can stunt with the best of them.
It may turn out that you’re totally right. But my point was that his musicality and innovation is a lot like Dre’s. Don’t forget Dre at one time was talking about crafting a “Hip-Hop Opera” who was dancing in a tux in one of his videos.
I think it was a good concept to bounce around.
There’s an inherent difference between the two though. Dr. Dre realizes that if he surrounds himself with the best of the west side crew it’ll ultimately only improve his work. Hence writing/producing/rapping collaborations that have produced The Chronic and 2001. However, I think Kanye thinks he’s the shit…..no….I KNOW Kanye thinks he’s the shit. So he’ll either do it on his own or throw in some auto toned Lil Wayne cuz it’s what people wanna here and it’ll ultimately gain him more money/fame.
Not to say most rappers/producers aren’t in it for making money and bragging about it, but Kanye just moves it from lolz to douchy.
I can’t front – you’ve got a really good point there, my dude.
I’d like to see more hungry Wayne who was trying to prove himself to Jay and Dame.
I saw this article over at nappyafro. Good shit.
If wayne comes hard and dosent spit some whack ass bull shit it would be good….Im kinda suprised that you didnt put busta in here…I mean he is on dre’s record label and minus arab money and whack he hasnt fucked up to much….as for the hating on kanye…808s wasnt going to be a album orignally it was gonna be a mixtape…so we cant really fault him i still look at it like a mixtape just really marketed..Another one im kinda suprised is missing is lupe..i mean the kid is good his raps are flawless..and dre is starting to get introspective…I dunno thats just me.
I included Busta in the Aftermath camp because I’m pretty sure he’ll be on Detox. That, plus we’ve already heard in on numerous Dre tracks on “Genesis”, so the novelty factor is not there. Lupe is a good suggestion, although he wouldn’t be my first choice.
Thanks my dude. Hope to see you over here joining in. But i can’t front – the boys over at Nappy are dope!
I think Wayne is all hype. He doesn’t hold a candle to Dre.
