Bloggers: You Can Learn A Lot From A Kid Named Pruane
Judging from the response to this post, its clear that hip-hop heads are looking for real opinion and thought. Unfortunately, some folks are afraid to drop their ideas on their website. You all need to man up and see how it’s done. But I’m not talking about me. If you’ve been online in the hip-hop community, you’ve heard of this nerdy little white kid who has been laying out dudes like Chris Brown and 50 Cent. I know some people dig him because he’s easy to make fun of, but bloggers can learn a lot from this kid. He has gotten over 1.2 million hits in total on his YouTube videos and he’s all over the ‘Net.
The most important lesson Pruane illustrates is that its important to be yourself. In fact, any blog “expert” will tell you that an authentic, original voice is essential. And Pruane is OG; I’ll give him that. This little man is jumping in front of a camera an not trying to be anything other than who he is: a suburban white kid who loves video games and commenting on pop culture. There’s no act, no image, no fakery. He’s as real as it gets. Lesson: do you.
The second important lesson is that its essential to offer an opinion. Its amazing how many people I come across who are worried about what people will think or that they’re “wrong”. Get over yourself. You are one voice in a large, diverse community. But look at how much traffic this kid generated by going in on 50 Cent or Soulja Boy. Is he an expert on hip-hop? Hardly. But he put his take out there and is getting a response.
Thirdly, he’s entertaining. That’s a serious currency in the online world. The dude has personality. And he’s seriously on point about 50 and the Bricklayer. At the same time, he adds his own stamp – check that tagline at the end (“A Sexman! Film!”). Hilarity. Sure, he has haters (check the comments on his video), but so does anyone creating their own lane.
Even if this turns out to be an Andy Kaufman type scam, I think this dude still highlights what’s important if you want your site or blog to be successful and gain attention (and traffic):
- Originality
- Authenticity
- Editorial comment
Say what you want about this prepubescent pundit – but people are talking about him. Are people talking about you?
I didn’t think so.

hahahahahahaha
I’ve been watching this kid for a few weeks now he’s hilarious.
So real.
Yeah, he kinda has a “mean nerd” Napoleon Dynamite thing going on. But I admittedly love it.
Yo good follow up post. Again, couldn’t agree more. Now if MCs would just start being them selves.
By the way… this would have sufficed for your first post on bloggers. The advice pretty much applies to being successful at anything… except being elected president of your frat.
I don’t know man: sometimes I wonder what rappers would be like if they were themselves. Could scare us.
You’re probably right. But I’m always shocked by how many bloggers do not take that advice. We’re just that much better.
