Will The Chef Raekwon Make Me Eat My Words?

Some of you may remember I opined that Wu-Tang heavyweight Raekwon should stop messing with his classic releases and focus on the future. You can’t blame me – at the time, Rae was dropping Criminology ’09 and seemed to be largely leaning on his rep rather than hit us with some new hot joints.
Now, its too early to tell, but I’m starting to get hyped about what we may see from The Chef when he finally drops his LP. Since my original post, we’ve heard some dope tracks and guest appearances from him in the past few weeks, including a rethink of Hova’s “Brooklyn (We Go Hard)” track that popped into the inbox this morning:

We’ll see shortly whether he can continue that trend. Rae recently announced that he will be dropping a mixtape Blood On Chef’s Apron on April 2nd. Granted, mixtapes are dubious indicators of whether the album that follows will be dope or not; but I think Apron will at least give us a sense of where Raekwon is going with his music.
For myself, I hope Rae kills it with Apron and OB4CL2. Too many vets are falling into oblivion rather than just stepping back from the mic or the boards. It would really give the game a shot in the arm if Rae could take it to that next level. There is unquestionably a thirst for real hip-hop. I can’t think of a better time for an anti-swag legend like Rae to make an strong appearance on the scene.
I would be happy to admit that I was too hasty in doubting him in the first place. Time will tell.

To be honest I thought this was week. i mean we are in a era of Kid cudi’s, Kanye west, Jay-z, Talib Kweli, Eminem, Dre, Ti and this, whislt i think some of the old skool rap is good shit like PE Ez E and the like this is old skool in a new era if your gonna drop that kind of shit you better go hard like eric B. I mean Raekwon the chef what the hell you cookin? This is some recycled hov beat with a hella annoying hook nasaly as fuck. Im sorry but Chef this seems to be some reheated microwaved bullshit. Thats my take. Im OUT!
Also i want a picture. to the left of my name
I think you can register for an avatar at wordpress.com. I set mine up through the site.
Yeah, but that’s not the point. I give Rae props because this is an established vet who is flipping it on a well-known track like its his first mixtape. I think The Chef knows his legacy is in jeopardy and he’s coming back hard as fu*k. I appreciate that to the fullest. Whether the joint itself is truly fire or not is beside the point for the most part.
