CLICK ON IT: Def Thought

As any blogger or website owner will tell you, its hard to get attention out in these digital streets. Which often means that many quality sites with ill content get overlooked. With the periodic “Click On It” interview feature, YFWB shines a light in the hopes of getting you all acquainted with some of the diverse personalities in the raposphere. Hit me up if you want to chop it up. Today: Mookie Williams of Def Thought.
1. Who are you and where are you from?
My name’s Mookie Williams, and I guess I’m just your average hip hop head. I’m originally from Florida but I moved to the Midwest and haven’t really made an official move out of there since. Hopefully in a few years I’ll be living in Cali. Love the weather there and the LA hip hop scene is making a comeback, mark my words.
2. I hear that. How did you first discover hip-hop?
My mother actually first introduced me to hip hop. She always used to drop me off at school and she would pop in Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. She never was a big hip hop fan but for some reason she always liked OutKast. So anyway, that was really my only exposure to hip hop at a young age. I liked it, but I didn’t have a cd player or anything and at the time I was probably more interested in my matchbox cars. I really got into hip hop only a few years ago when my uncle played me Jay Z’s The Black Album. I don’t know what it is but something about that album drew me in. I wanted more. I went back and bought Jay’s other albums, then I looked into his featuring artists and that’s how my music collection and taste grew. So I guess in a way I didn’t really discover hip hop for myself.
3. That’s dope. My Moms is more of an Elton John fan. Give me your top 5 favorite artists.
Oooh that’s hard… Of all time?
(No Order)
Jay Z
Nas
Biggie
Common
Andre 3000
4. You run a blog. Tell YFWB readers about it.
Yeah, so I run a blog called Def Thought, it actually went down awhile ago because of complications with the host but I got it back up just recently. My goal for the site is for it to be like a breath of fresh air in the hip hop blogosphere because you see a lot of cut & paste blogs out there right now that just post new singles that they find on bigger sites. I know you’ve hit that topic before.
5. Indeed. I respect that. Why did you decide to set up Def Thought?
I don’t have a lot of people around me right now that are as big into hip hop as I am so I set up Def Thought to be essentially my loudspeaker into the online hip hop community. I mean, from my blog right here where I’m sitting I can talk to hip hop fans all over the world, so why not, right?
6. What makes your blog different than other sites?
Making my blog different than other sites is really something I strive to do on a daily basis because the last thing I want to do is just be a clone. I think the #1 thing that separates me from other blogs is original content. Like I was talking about before a lot of hip hop blogs just post the same singles and videos that they find on other sites with no commentary or anything, which really doesn’t do anything… I never understood the logic behind that. But original content is something that every blog can have and still maintain an identity. Personally, I think bloggers should think of their sites as daily magazines. If a hip hop mag just stole articles from other hip hop mags would you read it? hell no.
7. Word up. Have any special features coming up?
I’m still working on really getting the site back up on it’s feet but yeah I have a couple interviews lined up with upcoming and maybe a couple old school artists. Also I’m working on a few compilations right now, a Redman/Method Man comp should be dropping pretty soon. Other than that I’ve been talking to a few different artists and bloggers about doing a guest post [wink] or two on the site… that’s about it.
8. Absolutely, my dude. Where can people hit you up?
My email address is Mookwill@gmail.com or I just put up this fancy little contact form on Def Thought where you can email me straight from the site. I also am co-blogger at HHHead.com, you can hit me up on there anytime. If you leave a comment on either site I get an email and I try to respond to all of my comments. Big ups to B Dub for the interview and all the help!

A lot of changes happening on the site right now, give it a look tell me what you think.
Also, I threw you up on the blogroll if you want to do the same
Peace
Mookie,
Where is your blog? Blogger writes that it has been removed.
http://defthought.blogspot.com/
Mookie hooked up with Guy Fawkes on Hip Hop Head, but that also seems to be deleted, so I have to hit those boys up and find out what they’re up to.
When you do compilations like Fawkes does, Google and WordPress are watching. They get taken down often.
