Vibe’s Top 50 Rap Blogs: I’m #51!

Just missed it this year. Try and prove me wrong.
In all seriousness, I’d like to send a belated congratulations to some good folks I’ve gotten to know in the raposphere: the boys at The Smoking Section, Riz over at The Rap Up, internet celebrity Dallas Penn, Ivan over at Hip Hop Is Read, Jason at T.R.O.Y. blog and LowKey and Obese over at UHTN. Well deserved.
As with some other commentators, I take issue with VIBE’s incredibly wide definition of a “Hip Hop blog”. In fact, I would argue that the entire NMC roster are not blogs. They post content, not opinion (OK, occasionally Eskay will drop an op-ed). I’m not hating at all. Should they be in the top 5 or 10 rap websites? Definitely – if only based on how many Xerox websites that straight up copy their format and content are out there.
XXL Magazine decided to throw up an alternative list of Hip Hop Blogs that, while decidely self serving, is a little more accurate. However, since we’re on the topic of lists, I would like to throw up my list of folks who should have been on this list:
If they aren’t on your daily reads, you’re slipping, B. All original content, run by all really good people. There are a few other blogs that I would deem worthy of being on the list, but the owners are jackholes, so I won’t given them any airtime.
Anyway, congrats to all on the list. As any blogger will tell you, its cold out here in the Intertubes and any recognition helps to keep the lights on.

nappyafro made the list! Naw, thanks for the shout. Actually, I always personally ask myself the question; “Would I come to my site?” 95% it’s yes…and then there are those day we have Gucci Mane on the front page. But on the bright side we did make Kevin’s list (http://kevinnottingham.com/2009/05/07/hip-hop-blogs-i-check/)
Thanks for the shoutout.
