Things I Learned About Elton John
In a recent interview Sir Elton John talked about how too many people, especially those in the wider mainstream music industry, dismiss hip-hop as a lesser form of music – or not music at all:
“People who mock rap, and say, ‘I don’t like it,’ they should go check out Kanye in the studio rapping. Or Eminem when he’s in the studio. It’s a phenomenon,” he continued. “Don’t knock it until you’ve seen it. It may not be your cup of tea, but don’t ridicule. I find that so many of my peers of my age don’t listen to anything new. I love the new.”
Of course, as a hip-hop head, I appreciate him speaking up for rap music. But what was really interesting were two other pieces of information also included in the article:
- Elton laid down the piano for Kanye’s “All Of The Lights” track off of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
- Eminem has a great sense of humor and he’s classy. For Sir Elton’s nuptials, he bought the couple diamond encrusted cock rings. Brilliant.
